Current R2 winter-wheel discussion includes aftermarket clearance anecdotes. Those reports are not a verified fitment table and do not establish a safe alternative wheel size. Reddit: R2 winter wheel questions

When comparing quotes, ask the supplier to identify the exact wheel, tire, load requirements, clearance checks, sensor compatibility and any vehicle configuration steps. Request a written statement that the proposed package is appropriate for your specific R2. Keep mounting, seasonal swaps, storage and replacement availability visible in the quote.

Tell readers your region, current wheel configuration, normal winter driving and the decision you are making. Avoid presenting an untested part number as a recommendation. A photo that shows a wheel installed does not answer every clearance or operating question.

Which information was hardest to obtain from suppliers? Useful replies can describe a question that changed the quote or identify an official document. This thread is for evaluating the completeness of the advice you receive, not compiling a staff-approved aftermarket wheel list.

How should an R2 owner compare winter tires with a second wheel set?

Conor Early · R2 Crew editorial answer · Checked October 24, 2026.

Compare two complete fitted quotes, not the price of four tires against the price of four wheels. The first quote keeps your current wheels and includes suitable winter tires, mounting, balancing, valves/sensors as needed, and twice-yearly changeovers. The second includes a verified compatible winter wheel/tire/sensor package, fitting, seasonal swaps and storage.

Use your expected ownership period. For example, over three winters, add six seasonal changes to each option, using the actual shop’s quoted rate. Keep that calculation separate from any predicted resale value.

Require the shop to identify the exact tire size, load and speed ratings, wheel specification, brake clearance and TPMS compatibility for your R2. A small diameter difference or someone else’s installation photo does not establish that an alternative is appropriate. Ask Rivian about approved configurations before paying for a change.

The original discussion contains several proposed combinations but also conflicting availability and fitment claims. This answer does not endorse those unverified sizes. The best next step is a complete quote that a named installer will stand behind, including what happens if the vehicle cannot read the sensors.
