R2 lease versus finance: compare the same period and written offers

Start with the same vehicle, expected mileage and time you intend to keep it. A monthly payment by itself cannot compare a lease with a purchase.

For the lease, list the amount due at signing, every payment, mileage allowance and potential return or early-exit charges. For financing, compare APR, term, cash down and the remaining balance at your chosen end date; ownership value is uncertain, not a guaranteed refund.

The CFPB explains that leasing generally pays for use and depreciation over a period, while financing buys the vehicle. Get dated written offers, including taxes and fees, and obtain insurance quotes for the actual vehicle. Do not treat a forum claim about a current incentive as an offer available to you.
