R2 charging adapters: start with the plug and the port

Rivian’s Combo CCS1 DC Adapter connects a CCS1 DC charger to a NACS vehicle. The product page explicitly limits it to DC charging; it is not an AC adapter. Rivian Combo CCS1 DC Adapter

For a compatible J1772 Level 2 charger, Rivian lists a separate J1772 AC-to-NACS adapter. Its instructions explicitly exclude DC use. This is the distinction to check for workplace or hotel charging. Rivian J1772 AC Adapter

The practical question is not “Do I need a Rivian adapter?” It is “What connector does this charger offer, and what connection does my vehicle accept?” Write those two ends down before shopping. A product designed to solve the reverse connection problem is not a substitute simply because the names look familiar.

Keep a small route-specific equipment list. For each place you expect to charge, note the connector, whether it is AC or DC, and the approved equipment required. Photograph labels on equipment you already own so you can check its exact identity against current instructions. If compatibility is unclear, ask the manufacturer before attempting to use it.

Older R1 videos can be particularly confusing because the vehicle-side connector may differ. Check the model year and visible port instead of treating every Rivian charging tutorial as interchangeable.

For a forum compatibility question, include the charger model, connector, adapter manufacturer and part number. Describe the proposed connection in words. Do not infer approval from a seller saying “fits Rivian,” or from a single successful charging session. The goal is a verified equipment match, not a collection of workarounds.
