How can I compare native Apple Music and Spotify on an R2?

Conor Early · R2 Crew editorial answer · Checked October 24, 2026.

Compare the tasks you use inside the car, not just the phone apps or another manufacturer’s version. There is no verified hands-on winner in this editorial answer. It is a reproducible test for your demo or trial period.

While parked, try the same small set of tasks in each native app: find an album, open a saved playlist, start a podcast or other long recording you actually use, move around its queue if supported, and return to playback after switching views. Write down what is missing rather than assuming it is available because your phone has it.

Keep sound and usability as separate scores. If comparing sound, use the same familiar tracks and similar listening level; check whether you selected different mixes. A service with the interface you prefer may still have a different catalog or family-account arrangement.

Record the R2 software version and connectivity conditions. A report from Tesla, an R1 or an older build is a useful lead, not proof of the current R2 experience. Before moving a family subscription, identify the one or two missing functions that would actually make you unhappy. If neither service meets those needs, phone audio is a separate option to evaluate, not an answer about native-app feature parity.
