Does a lower range estimate mean my R2 battery has degraded?

Answer: the estimate alone cannot establish degradation. Rivian describes navigation range as a prediction that learns from driving and accounts for the journey and carried equipment. That is different from a measurement of battery capacity. Rivian source

An R2 mixed-driving report combines actual miles traveled with miles still predicted at the finish. The remaining estimate was not distance the owner subsequently demonstrated. Adding the two does not turn the result into a controlled full-battery test. External discussion

For example, a hypothetical 60 kWh of available energy corresponds to 180 miles at 3 miles/kWh but only 150 miles at 2.5 miles/kWh. The energy is unchanged; the assumed efficiency changed. This arithmetic explains why a range number can move without proving a battery fault, although it cannot rule one out either.

Next step: compare several similar journeys at similar starting percentages, speeds and temperatures. Use actual distance and energy records where available, and note whether you are looking at dashboard range or destination-arrival range. Ask Rivian to assess persistent unexplained changes or warnings; do not deliberately drive to empty to diagnose capacity.
