Buy an available R2 or wait: what is your decision deadline?

Does waiting for Premium guarantee the next autonomy hardware?

Conor Early · R2 Crew editorial answer · Checked October 24, 2026.

Do not use a trim name as proof of a particular computer or sensor package. The decision needs two separate confirmations: the equipment on the exact configuration offered to you, and the features enabled on delivery.

For the current offer, list the things you would still value if no additional autonomy features arrived: ride, seats, performance, cargo use and the included software entitlement. For waiting, list what must become concrete before you order: a hardware specification, customer availability, price and the features you need.

A favorable trade-in quote has an expiry and a real value today; a future configuration has uncertainty. Neither automatically decides the question. Set a decision date and compare fresh written offers then. If you have no urgent replacement need, waiting for those details is a reasonable choice, but it is not a guarantee that an early Premium will contain every announced upgrade.
